My name is Melanie Richards, and I'm a freelance designer currently studying at the University of Florida; I will graduate in May 2011 with my BFA in Graphic Design. When not oogling type or sketching wireframes, I am writing poetry, cultivating a relationship with my Senators' answering machines, or exploring vegetarian cooking.

Why "Brine + Pine?"
Someone commandeered my eponymous URL, so I decided to honor two regions which have greatly influenced me: Pine for Pennsylvania (born and raised!) and Brine for Florida, where I have lived and studied for the past six years. Brine + Pine is just my URL solution, not a business monicker.
Design Goals
My greatest goal is to encourage people to feel a mutual responsibility towards each other, particularly in the realm of conservation and restoration of natural resources. However lofty this goal is, I hope always to design with a sense of humor and humility.
